IATA AIRPORT HANDLING MANUAL

AVIABRIDGE is currently providing independent SME support for an update of the Delay Code schema within the IATA Airport Handling Manual (AHM). As part of the IATA Ground Operation Automation and Digitalisation Group (GAD), the members of the delay code workstream are designing a new schema suitable for today’s data driven management processes and aviation performance analysis.

The current AHM730/1 scheme is some forty years old and is based on a loose grouping of alpha and/or numeric codes to best describe the reason for a flight departure delay. A level of ‘knowledge’ is required to use the current scheme and due to its ambiguity, it is often mis-used resulting in less than accurate performance analysis.

The new AHM732 scheme uses a fixed three digit letter coding structure that describes Process, Reason and Stakeholder of every delay scenario. Being finalised and ‘stress tested’ during the Spring of 2021, the final approved version is expected to be published in the 42nd edition of the AHM.

With operational experience at ground handling, airline and airport business, and membership of the Airport Punctuality Network group within ACI-Europe, AVIABRIDGE is pleased to provide significant input to this important industry improvement programme.
